Bumula MP Jack Wamboka has been removed as chair of the Public Investments Committee (PIC) on Governance and Education pending a probe into bribery allegations from witnesses. Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei confirmed the suspension in parliament on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. The move follows complaints from the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).
Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei announced the suspension in parliament on Wednesday to safeguard public trust in the committee's work during the inquiry.
"In order to safeguard public trust in the work of the Public Investments Committee on governance and education during the pendency of the inquiry, I am further persuaded to suspend the honourable Jack Wanami Wamboka from chairing the committee during the period," Shollei declared.
The NCIC, led by chairperson Samuel Kobia, wrote to Speaker Moses Wetang'ula protesting harassment, demeaning treatment, and bribery demands against its officers who appeared before the committee while scrutinising Auditor General’s reports for 2021/2022 and 2023/2024 financial years. Kobia stated the behaviour created an environment of intimidation, alleging Wamboka demanded bribes for favourable consideration.
Shollei directed Minority Leader Junet Mohammed to nominate an interim chair by noon on April 23, as Vice Chairperson Boyd Were is a newly sworn-in MP and ineligible. Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah praised the move as a “Solomonic decision” and suggested referral to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), but Shollei opted for internal handling by the Powers and Privileges Committee, which must report within 45 days.
Homa Bay MP Peter Kaluma also wrote on the matter, warning that failing to address the allegations promptly could undermine Parliament’s constitutional oversight role.
