Bungie delays Destiny 2 roadmap to early 2026

Bungie has announced a delay for Destiny 2's full roadmap, pushing it to early 2026 after admitting that the Edge of Fate expansion took the game down the wrong path. Instead, the studio released a Content Calendar outlining upcoming features for the Renegades expansion, set for December 2. This comes amid efforts to address player feedback and reverse a challenging year for the sci-fi MMO.

Background on the Delay

Destiny 2, Bungie's decade-old sci-fi shooter, has faced criticism following the July release of the Edge of Fate expansion, which aimed to refocus on power progression and gear tiers but was quickly deemed unsuccessful. In September, Bungie promised a roadmap for the game's future, but two months later, the plans remain in flux. The studio cited the need for more time to incorporate player feedback into a long-term strategy.

"As we continue to act on your feedback, we’re taking additional time to craft our long-term strategy for the future of Destiny before we share a full State of the Game and multi-year roadmap next year," Bungie stated this week.

Community director dmg04 echoed this on Twitter on November 13, 2025: "We need more time for the roadmap, plain and simple. Expect a true Roadmap, and State of the Game, next year. Again, many apologies."

Renegades Expansion Details

In place of the full roadmap, Bungie unveiled a Content Calendar for the December 2 Renegades expansion, which incorporates Star Wars elements. Key features include:
- All players reaching the new Power cap through Renegades activities.
- Vault capacity increasing to 1,000 slots for new loot.
- Swappable Exotic Armor ornaments between gear of the same class and slot, enhancing customization.
- Return of seasonal events like Dawning, Iron Banner, and Call to Arms.
- Vanguard Alerts bringing back Nightfall-style challenges to reduce grind.

Bungie reflected on Edge of Fate in a postmortem: "With Edge of Fate, we presented a different vision... Very quickly, the feedback made it clear that this was the wrong path for Destiny. Even if our execution had been perfect... it is clear that grinding Power will never be a substitute for earning a trophy."

This shift aims to return to core Destiny 2 elements, focusing on exploration and aspirational rewards amid the game's ongoing challenges in keeping content fresh after more than a decade.
