Peter Serafinowicz has shared his experience voicing Darth Maul in the Star Wars prequels during a recent podcast appearance. He recounted a conversation with George Lucas that left him questioning his compensation.
Peter Serafinowicz voiced Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Solo: A Star Wars Story. In the role, he worked alongside physical performer Ray Park on the 1999 film directed by George Lucas.
During an appearance on the Class Clown podcast, Serafinowicz recalled Lucas telling him he was the new James Earl Jones. He responded by questioning the pay, saying, “Then why are you paying me such shit money, George?”
Serafinowicz described his disappointment upon seeing the finished film. He was later replaced by Sam Witwer for The Clone Wars animated series and the Disney+ show Maul – Shadow Lord.
Serafinowicz is now set to play Peeves the Poltergeist in the upcoming HBO Harry Potter television series.
