Allegations surfaced in Dehradun that IG Garhwal Rajiv Swaroop intervened during a late-night police raid on Romeo Lane bar. The matter has escalated to Uttarakhand police headquarters.
On Saturday late night, a party was ongoing past the 12 AM closing time at Romeo Lane bar on Rajpur Road in Dehradun. SP City Pramod Kumar arrived with heavy police force to evacuate the bar.
Allegations claim that IG Garhwal Rajiv Swaroop was present and intervened in the action. Subsequently, SSP Dehradun Pramod Dobhal arrived and enforced the closure.
IG Rajiv Swaroop told Aaj Tak, "I was passing through that area with my family. I expressed anger over the deployment of police from 7 stations and heavy force, questioning why so much staff was needed there. Wrong information is being spread about me."
Uttarakhand police headquarters has taken serious note. ADG (Law & Order) Dr. V. Murugesan has sought detailed reports from IG Garhwal and SSP Dehradun within 24 hours. CCTV footage is being examined. The raid was part of Operation Prhaar following the Brigadier Mukesh Joshi murder on March 30 in Johri village, where gunfire led to the retired officer's death and nine arrests so far.
