Doosan Bears decide not to retain outfielder Jake Cave

The Doosan Bears have decided not to bring back American outfielder Jake Cave for a second season in the KBO. Cave announced on social media Thursday that the team's retention of his rights makes it impossible for him to sign with another KBO club. He thanked fans for their support during his standout 2025 season.

The Doosan Bears announced on November 27, 2025, that they would not retain American outfielder Jake Cave for the upcoming season. Cave shared his disappointment on Instagram Story, writing, "I was hoping to get to play in front of you again but the team had other plans." He added, "I also was hoping to get the chance to play in the KBO again but the team has unfortunately made it impossible for me to sign with another team."

Cave's comments refer to the Bears' choice to hold onto his rights despite failing to agree on a new contract. Under KBO rules, if a team retains rights to a foreign player from the previous season without re-signing them, that player cannot join another KBO club without the former team's consent. This policy aims to prevent ex-players from aiding rival teams in competition.

During the 2025 season, Cave became a fan favorite with the Bears thanks to his hustle on the base paths and in the outfield. He posted a .299/.351/.463 slash line, with 16 home runs, 87 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases. Cave led all KBO players with 1,127 1/3 innings in right field. In his message to fans, he wrote, "Thank you so much for your support all year. You were kind to my family and brought a lot of energy every night for me. Thank you for a fun 2025."

On Wednesday, the Bears outright released American pitcher Col Irvin, making him a free agent, and plan to pursue a new deal with another U.S. hurler, Zach Logue.
