Downtown Boys announce first album in nine years

Punk band Downtown Boys will release Public Luxury, their first album since 2017's Cost of Living, on June 26 via Sub Pop. The lead single 'No Me Jodas' arrives with a live video directed by John MacKay. The band has also scheduled initial live shows.

Downtown Boys, known for their raucous punk sound, have returned with news of Public Luxury, following up their 2017 album Cost of Living. The new record, due out June 26 on Sub Pop, was co-produced by band member Joey La Neve DeFrancesco and recording engineer Seth Manchester. It opens with the single 'No Me Jodas,' which translates to 'Don't Fuck With Me' and comes accompanied by a dynamic live video. Directed by John MacKay, the video stars Mariachi Internacional Tapatio de Alvaro Paulino and draws inspiration from Peru's 'chicha' music culture, as explained by singer Victoria Marie. She described it as capturing 'economics, work, partying, life, desire, and nightlife,' with the ethic summed up by chicha musician Chacalón as 'chamba y vacilón'—hard work and partying. The full tracklist includes: 01 No Me Jodas, 02 The City Begins, 03 Sirena, 04 Yellow Sun, 05 Viva la Rosa, 06 Enemy Without, 07 You’re a Ghost, 08 Albuterol, 09 Mi Concha, 10 Public Works, 11 Public Luxury. Ahead of a larger tour, the band revealed short-notice performances: March 26 at AS220 in Providence, RI, with Black Eyes; March 27 at Deep Cuts in Boston, MA, with Whyte Lipstick; and March 28 at Space 538 in Portland, ME, with Red Eft and Bait Bag. As first reported by Pitchfork.
