An explosion occurred at the PT GWS steel factory in Desa Janti, Waru District, Sidoarjo, East Java, on Monday afternoon. One worker died and two others suffered serious injuries during iron cutting with a blender welder. Police have secured the site for further investigation.
Sidoarjo City Police Chief, Commissioner Big Police Christian Tobing, confirmed the explosion originated from the PT GWS steel factory. The incident happened around 2:30 PM WIB when two employees with initials P and J were cutting scrap iron using a blender welder.
Three people were victims: an employee with initials R died, while P and J sustained serious injuries. All three have been evacuated to the nearest hospital for treatment.
Polresta Sidoarjo personnel, including Waru Police Sector and the Brimob Bomb Disposal Unit, are at the scene to process the crime scene (TKP). Tobing stated that police are still conducting further investigations.
"The explosion sound came from the PT GWS steel factory in Desa Janti, Waru District, Sidoarjo," Tobing told ANTARA.
