Florida mother arrested for toddler son's death in street crash

A 32-year-old Florida mother faces charges of aggravated manslaughter and child neglect after her 2-year-old son wandered into the street and was killed by a pickup truck. The incident occurred in October 2025 outside her home in West Lealman. Alejandra Segundo Cruz was arrested on Thursday and held without bond.

Alejandra Segundo Cruz was taken into custody on Thursday, several months after the death of her son, Damian Alexander Segundo Cruz. The 2-year-old was struck and killed by a Ford F-450 pickup truck just before 4 p.m. on Oct. 29, 2025, in the 8000 block of 49th Avenue North in the West Lealman area, about 120 miles southwest of Orlando. Court records show she has been charged with one count each of aggravated manslaughter of a child and child neglect resulting in great bodily harm, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by the Tampa Bay Times and reported by WTVT and WTSP affiliates.
