Florida mother charged after directing kids to assault boy

A 41-year-old Florida woman faces charges after allegedly instructing her young children to attack a 10-year-old boy at a playground and holding him down during the incident. The confrontation followed an initial fight among children playing together. Authorities say the boy suffered visible injuries including swelling to his left eye.

On Monday, deputies from the Osceola County Sheriff's Office responded to a disturbance at the Heritage Park Apartment Complex involving multiple juveniles at a community park. According to the sheriff's news release, a group of children had been playing together when a fight broke out. Some children left the area and returned with their mothers, escalating the situation into a confrontation between adults and minors. Ketsy Ann Rivera, 41, is accused of playing a central role. Authorities state that Rivera pushed her children, aged 8 and 9, toward the 10-year-old victim and instructed them to strike him. She then grabbed the boy by his shirt, preventing him from leaving or defending himself, making it three against one. The incident reportedly intensified after the boy called Rivera a 'fat a—.' Responding officers observed significant swelling on the boy's left eye. The child's mother arrived and requested charges be pursued. Fire department personnel evaluated the boy at the scene and cleared him of serious medical concerns. Rivera was arrested on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, child abuse without great bodily harm, and false imprisonment. She was booked into Osceola County Jail and released after posting $12,000 bond. Capt. Kim Montes of the Osceola County Sheriff's Office described the events, saying: 'She was actually holding him back where he could not even defend himself from the other two boys coming at him or get away from the situation. It was three against one. It's her job as a mom to come in and try and deescalate this, not ramp it up. And that's exactly what she did here. She took it to the next level.' No other charges against additional individuals have been announced.
