The High Court in Milimani has found former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and two co-accused guilty of the 2018 murder of university student Sharon Otieno.

Lady Justice Cecilia Githua delivered the judgment on Thursday, July 23, 2026. She ruled that the prosecution had proved its case against Obado, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero beyond reasonable doubt.

The court found that Obado supplied motive, funds and instigation for the murder to conceal his relationship with Sharon, who was 28 weeks pregnant. Oyamo facilitated the execution while Obiero provided logistical support and helped conceal the crime.

The three were remanded in custody until August 18 as the court awaits mitigation and sentencing reports. The DPP office welcomed the verdict and called for a harsh sentence to serve as a deterrent.
