The Edo State Government closed its case on Tuesday against four suspected kidnappers at a special court in Benin City. Seven witnesses testified during the proceedings. The defendants face a 10-count charge including kidnapping and armed robbery.
The four suspects, Marvellous Isaac, Wisdom Michael, Rufus Emete Michael and Gift Raphael, were arraigned for abducting a woman at a vegetable market along Airport Road. The prosecution, led by Commissioner for Justice Prof Roland Otaru, presented exhibits such as a pump action gun, a voice note and video statements.
Justice Aigbona Terry Momodu adjourned the matter to Friday, July 24, 2026, for the defence to open its case. Counsel for the defendants said they would defend the suspects in line with the Constitution.
Edo State Solicitor-General Stephen Okoror noted that the government had investigated thoroughly and tendered relevant documents.
