Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused the IEBC and President William Ruto's administration of planning to postpone the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi on July 10, Gachagua linked the IEBC's ICT system upgrade and warnings about insecurity in the Ol Kalou by-election to a scheme to manipulate future polls.
He questioned the timing of the system maintenance ahead of the July 16 by-election and the commission's ability to manage violence.
"If you have no capacity to manage the by-elections, will you manage next year's elections?" Gachagua said.
IEBC Chairperson Erustus Ethekon had warned on July 9 that the by-election could be postponed or cancelled if breaches of the Electoral Code of Conduct continued. The commission described the ICT upgrade as routine maintenance.
