Chairman of DPR RI's Commission VIII Marwan Dasopang urged the government to cover the additional Hajj 2026 flight costs surging nearly Rp2 trillion. The increase stems from rising avtur prices and currency fluctuations. He stressed that the costs should not burden prospective pilgrims.
During a working meeting with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/4/2026), Marwan Dasopang emphasized that the proposed additional flight costs differential must be covered by state finances.
Total Hajj flight costs rose from Rp6.69 trillion to Rp8.46 trillion, an increase of about Rp1.77 trillion. This stems from proposals by Garuda Indonesia for Rp974.8 billion and Saudi Airlines for Rp802.8 billion, due to surging avtur prices and exchange rate fluctuations.
Marwan requested the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to recalculate the costs, given the dynamic global oil prices. "The government needs to coordinate across ministries and agencies so this financing scheme can be implemented accountably and in line with regulations," he said.
He further stressed cross-ministerial coordination to ensure state budget use is accountable under prevailing laws.
