Harry Meade takes rare fall at Badminton Horse Trials

Harry Meade fell from Cavalier Crystal during the cross-country phase of the Mars Badminton Horse Trials on 9 May. The incident occurred at fence 22ab, but he remains in second place overnight on Annaghmore Valoner.

Harry Meade experienced an unusual fall on his third horse of the day, Cavalier Crystal, at the Mars Badminton Horse Trials. The mare stood on herself at the angled rail after the open ditch in the farm yard combination and dived through the rail, breaking the frangibles and unseating her rider. Meade described the horse as sensational until that point and noted a deep cut on her pastern, while praising her effort to complete the job.

American rider Boyd Martin has pulled out of next month's Mars Badminton Horse Trials with his horse Miks Master C after it came up sore at a recent event. The 14-year-old gelding owned by OHP Hammertime Partners had been a podium contender. British pairs Selina Milnes on Cooley Snapchat and Harry Mutch on Shanbeg Cooley have also withdrawn.

Several leading riders have shared their initial reactions to the 2026 Badminton Horse Trials cross-country course designed by Eric Winter. The track features 32 fences and an optimum time of 11 minutes 30 seconds.
