Hong Kong’s Terminal 2 set to launch with tech features on May 27

Hong Kong is preparing to open its reconfigured Terminal 2 on May 27 with new technologies to ease passenger departures. Transport secretary Mable Chan called the launch a milestone for the city’s aviation hub status.

Hong Kong is counting down to the May 27 launch of the reconfigured Terminal 2 at its airport. The facility will use technology-led services to streamline departures and reduce bottlenecks.

Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said on Saturday that Terminal 2 is ready to serve travelers. She highlighted new technologies in a blog post and noted that Hong Kong’s golden brand will reach another milestone with the opening.

The Airport Authority expects the terminal to handle about 8 million passenger trips in its first year. Last year the entire airport handled 61 million passenger trips.

Terminal 2 forms part of the airport’s HK$141.5 billion three-runway system upgrade to boost capacity and efficiency amid regional competition.
