Johnny TV feels underutilized in AEW during recent interview

Johnny TV, formerly known as John Morrison in WWE, expressed feelings of being underutilized in All Elite Wrestling during an interview on Chris Van Vliet's Insight show. He described operating at only 10-20 percent of his capabilities and not being part of the regular 'island' of TV appearances. TV highlighted his recent positive experience in a CMLL match as a contrast.

Johnny TV, who joined AEW in 2022 after his WWE tenure, has voiced frustrations about his limited role in the promotion. In an appearance on Chris Van Vliet's Insight podcast, the wrestler, whose real name is John Morrison, stated that he feels "underutilized" by AEW president Tony Khan. He explained, "I am kind of just being off or feeling unfulfilled, basically. Not just me, a lot of people in wrestling but for me right now, in AEW, I feel underutilized. Can’t blame anyone. That’s just how wrestling promotions work. There’s only enough TV time for a certain amount of people. Those people at AEW, we’ve coined the term: The Island. 'Those people are on the island', so to speak."

TV noted that he does not feel he is on "the island" with Tony Khan or AEW at present, leading him to perform at only "10-20 percent of what I’m capable of, storytelling-wise, wrestling-wise, in the ring." Since joining AEW, he has wrestled 31 matches for the promotion and 26 for its sister brand ROH, including 13 singles matches for AEW and 14 for ROH.

His most recent AEW-affiliated match was a loss to Ace Austin on the January 22, 2026, edition of ROH, taped on January 10. His last appearance on AEW's main programs Dynamite or Collision occurred on the November 27, 2025, episode of the latter, filmed November 26, where he teamed with MxM TV partners Mason Madden and Mansoor in a defeat to Dalton Castle and The Outrunners.

In contrast, TV praised his recent work with CMLL, where he lost a Hair vs. Hair match to Angel de Oro on February 27, 2026. He called it one of his best matches in years, saying, "It was the first time in a while that I felt like me again." With CMLL, he said, "I’m on their island and so I got to do everything that I could and it was cool."

TV also mentioned a desired but unrealized matchup in AEW against Rey Fenix in a mask versus hair stipulation, noting its greater cultural significance in Lucha Libre.
