Josh Naylor signs five-year contract with Mariners

First baseman Josh Naylor has re-signed with the Seattle Mariners on a five-year, $92.5 million deal, including a $6.5 million signing bonus and a full no-trade clause. The contract, announced on November 18, 2025, marks the richest for a position-player free agent in Seattle since 2015. Naylor, acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks at the trade deadline, expressed his desire to win a World Series for the city and teammates.

Josh Naylor spoke to the media at T-Mobile Park on November 18, 2025, following the formal introduction of his new contract with the Seattle Mariners. The deal, worth $92.5 million over five years, includes a $6.5 million signing bonus and a full no-trade clause, making it the most lucrative for a position-player free agent in Seattle since Jerry Dipoto became president of baseball operations after the 2015 season.

Naylor, who joined the Mariners in a midseason trade from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for prospects Brandyn Garcia and Ashton Izzi, quickly became a fan favorite during the final two months of the 2025 regular season and the team's run to the American League Championship Series. The Mariners fell in Game 7 of the ALCS, a loss that motivated Naylor's return.

"I felt like that last loss, not that I had to come back, but I wanted to come back," Naylor said, "to give this fan base and this city and my teammates and their families a World Series in the next five years, or multiple World Series, or multiple pennants."

Negotiations began shortly after the World Series, with Dipoto and general manager Justin Hollander visiting Naylor at his Arizona home for a nearly four-hour meeting. Mariners chairman John Stanton also called Naylor. "It went well enough that we almost missed our flight on the way back," Hollander said. "We just kept talking about the future and about sharing the same vision for what this team could be. I was blown away by how much thought Josh had put into what was important to him."

Dipoto noted the Mariners' aggressive approach: "We behaved in a way that's a little different than we would normally behave. If we didn't know Josh, we would survey a market. On this one, we just knew we wanted him back, so we were willing to do something uncomfortable very quickly."

Naylor emphasized his comfort in Seattle over maximizing earnings. "I love this place. I love this fan base, I love this city, I love my teammates and I'm super thankful to be back," he said. "I just want to win baseball games. I want to win for the city."
