Kevin Sussman is set to lead HBO Max's upcoming series Stuart Fails to Save the Universe as the character Stuart Bloom. The spin-off places the former supporting player from The Big Bang Theory at the center of a multiverse adventure. It is scheduled to premiere on July 23.
Sussman described Stuart as a reluctant hero who is thrust into a leadership role after accidentally triggering a multiverse crisis. The plot involves Stuart attempting to restore reality following the destruction of a device created by Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper.
Fellow The Big Bang Theory cast members Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie reprise their roles as Denise, Bert, and Barry Kripke. Executive producers include Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady, Zak Penn, and Kyle Newacheck.
Sussman said the series gives Stuart new dimensions that were not explored in the original show. He noted that Stuart and Denise's relationship receives deeper focus in the spin-off.
The actor recalled receiving the offer directly from Lorre during a meeting in his office. Production has included action sequences filmed on location in Santa Clarita.
