The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has directed the removal of unauthorised portions from the residence of former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh within 45 days.
The order targets three specific violations at the property located at 83, Badan Roy Lane, Beleghata. These include a pergola measuring 5.425 square metres and 2.05 metres high on the roof, an iron spiral staircase installed to reach a machine room, and a newly built brick wall replacing a door on the second floor. The structures breach Rules 133 and 134 of the 2009 Building Rules.
KMC officials issued the directive after a hearing attended by Ghosh, his wife Sangeeta Ghosh, and complainant Anshuman Sarkar. The owners agreed to remove the elements during planned renovation work. The civic body had first sent a notice on 30 October 2024 and inspected the site following the August 2024 rape and murder case at the hospital.
Ghosh remains in judicial custody in a separate CBI case involving alleged financial corruption at RG Kar Hospital. The demolition order comes amid a wider state drive against illegal constructions under the new administration.
