KPA MD’s daughter dies in Taita Taveta road accident

Kenya Ports Authority Managing Director Capt. William Ruto is in stable condition after a road accident in Taita Taveta County that killed his daughter. The crash happened Friday evening when his vehicle collided with a stationary trailer lacking signage. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen shared new details on the incident.

Capt. William K. Ruto, KPA Managing Director since 2023, was travelling with five family members when the accident occurred Friday evening, April 3, 2026, in Taita Taveta County. His vehicle collided with a stationary trailer that lacked any signage, according to Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen.

Murkomen, speaking in Mombasa while assessing regional security with DCI Director Mohamed Amin and Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli, said he learned of the crash while preparing to travel there. “He was travelling with five members of his family when his daughter sadly passed,” Murkomen explained. He confirmed Ruto and three family members are stable following medical checks.

KPA stated: “We are deeply saddened to announce that our Chief Executive Officer, Capt. William K. Ruto was involved in a tragic road accident yesterday evening while travelling with his family. Regrettably, his daughter did not survive the accident.” The authority is cooperating with police investigators.

Murkomen urged all road users to exercise caution, especially during Easter festivities.
