Johana Ng’eno's burial scheduled for Friday after requiem mass

The family of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno has confirmed his burial will take place on Friday, March 6, following a helicopter crash on February 28 in Nandi County. President William Ruto visited the family on March 2 to offer condolences. The schedule includes a requiem mass on Wednesday and a night vigil on Thursday.

The family of the late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno has confirmed his burial schedule after consultations with leaders in Narok County. The burial will occur on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Emurua Dikirr Primary School, where thousands are expected to attend a joint service before separate burials at each family home.

According to the schedule, a requiem mass will be held on Wednesday, March 4, at Nairobi Baptist Church, allowing leaders, friends, and constituents to pay respects in the capital. A night vigil will take place on Thursday, March 5, in line with Kipsigis traditions.

Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, the late MP's father-in-law, stated that the bodies of Ng’eno and Wycliffe Kiprotich Rono will spend the night at his home because they were married according to Kipsigis customs. The other four unmarried bodies will be brought to Ng’eno’s home.

President William Ruto visited the family at their Karen home in Nairobi on March 2, expressing deep sorrow. “Mr Ng’eno did his best. He contributed to the welfare of the community, the nation and humanity,” the President said. He added that the late MP played a significant role in the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works, supporting the government’s Affordable Housing Programme.

Governor Ntutu invited all politicians to the funeral but warned against spreading propaganda about Ng’eno's death and politicking on the day. Leaders at the consultative meeting included Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, Narok Woman Representative Rebecca Tonkei, and others.

The crash occurred in Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, killing Ng’eno and five others. Preliminary reports indicate adverse weather conditions contributed to the incident.
