Levon Kirkland recalls Kordell Stewart's practice dominance at wide receiver

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Levon Kirkland said Kordell Stewart would have been an outstanding wide receiver. Kirkland made the comments while discussing Stewart's early days with the team.

Kirkland spoke on the Coach Gibbs Defense Lab YouTube channel. He described how a rookie Stewart dominated practices at wide receiver before transitioning to other roles.

"We could not cover the guy," Kirkland said. He added that Stewart's athleticism led coaches to move him into the starting lineup to use his skills.

Stewart was drafted in the second round in 1995. As a rookie he recorded 15 rushes for 86 yards and a touchdown along with 14 receptions for 235 yards and a touchdown while appearing in 10 games.

The Steelers reached the Super Bowl that season. Kirkland noted the defensive talent Stewart faced in practice including players such as Rod Woodson.
