Madonna claims 13th UK number one with Confessions II

Madonna has reached the summit of the Official UK Albums Chart with Confessions II. The album marks her first UK number one since MDNA in 2012.

The pop star now joins an elite group of acts with 13 or more UK number one albums. Those artists include Robbie Williams with 16, The Beatles with 15, Taylor Swift with 14, The Rolling Stones with 14 and Elvis Presley with 13.

Confessions II is the sequel to her 2005 release Confessions on a Dance Floor. It displaces Sienna Spiro's The Visitor, which enters at number two as the biggest debut album of the year by a British act.

Further down the chart, Olivia Rodrigo's You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love sits at number three. Michael Jackson's The Essential follows at number four and Olivia Dean's The Art of Loving rounds out the top five.
