Man charged in fatal parking lot collision with teen

A 40-year-old driver faces vehicular manslaughter charges after allegedly striking and killing a 19-year-old nursing student in a Long Beach parking lot. The incident occurred last November and authorities believe distraction played a role.

Desean Edwards was arrested on Tuesday and charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence in the death of Grace Edwards. Police said the crash happened shortly before 4 p.m. on November 2 in the parking lot of a shopping center on the 2200 block of Bellflower Boulevard. Grace Edwards was walking with her mother when the vehicle backed out and struck her, causing upper-body injuries. She died several days later in the hospital.
