Maruyama's ski jump streak ends in Swedish World Cup

Slovenian Nika Prevc ended Japanese star Nozomi Maruyama's World Cup winning streak in Falun, Sweden. Prevc scored 252.3 points with jumps of 125 and 132 meters to claim her 23rd individual victory. Maruyama finished second with 244.4 points.

Nozomi Maruyama's winning streak at the start of the World Cup ski jumping season ended on Sunday in the large hill event in Falun, Sweden. According to the FIS website, Slovenian world champion Nika Prevc narrowly defeated the rising Japanese jumper.

Prevc tallied 252.3 points with jumps measuring 125 meters and 132 meters—the latter a hill record—for her 23rd individual World Cup victory. She had placed second to Maruyama in Friday's normal hill competition. The 20-year-old Prevc told the FIS website, “I feel really happy about my jumps today. Those were the best of the season yet.”

Maruyama earned 244.4 points on jumps of 122.5 and 129 meters to take second place. Norway's Eirin Maria Kvandal finished third with 234.4 points, securing her first podium of the season and leading Japan's Sara Takanashi by 5.9 points in fourth.

The event highlighted Maruyama's emergence while underscoring Prevc's dominance. Competition in the early season remains fierce.
