NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa has called on traditional institutions and parents to partner with the agency against substance abuse in Nigeria.

Marwa made the appeal on Saturday while speaking at the 10th anniversary of Akinale Day and the coronation anniversary of Oba Oluseyi Ayodeji Adediran in Ogun. He urged parents to monitor their children for early behavioural changes and asked youths to reject illicit drugs.

The NDLEA boss also charged the royal council and community leaders in Owu Akinale to set up advocacy networks. These would make the area hostile to drug peddlers and support people struggling with dependence.

He spoke against the backdrop of recent discoveries of Nigerian-Mexican cartel methamphetamine laboratories in forests of Ogun and Oyo states. Marwa called on rulers in the Southwest to watch activities of strangers in forests and properly vet those buying farmlands.
