Murkomen defends plain-clothed officers during protests

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has defended the use of plain-clothed police officers during protests on Thursday, June 25. He spoke at Harambee House and described the measure as standard practice.

Murkomen explained that officers often operate without uniforms to protect themselves and avoid compromising operations. He noted that this approach includes the use of different or concealed vehicle number plates.

The Cabinet Secretary highlighted the role of Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers. These officers mingled with crowds across the country to identify and arrest offenders during the protests.

The government reported 355 arrests nationwide, with 161 occurring in Nairobi. Murkomen stated that such tactics are applied both locally and internationally as routine security measures.
