New Spyro game announced due to fan pressure

Toys for Bob has revealed Spyro: A Realm Beyond, the first original entry in the series in nearly two decades. The project came about after persistent calls from fans at gaming events. It is scheduled to launch in spring 2027 across multiple platforms.

Associate creative director Lou Studdert and studio head Paul Yan said the decision followed years of community requests. They noted that fans have asked about a new Spyro title every year and at every gaming event, even before the pitch was made.

Yan told GamesRadar+ that the team presented the idea to Xbox by highlighting the dedicated fanbase. He added that the studio has long wanted to revisit the character and saw the timing as right after the response proved consistent and vocal.

Studdert reflected on the studio's history with the franchise through Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Skylanders. He described Spyro as an underdog story that resonates with the team.

Tom Kenny will return as the voice of Spyro. The game will release on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
