The Hamburg city derby between FC St. Pauli and HSV ended Friday evening at Millerntor Stadium in a low-chance 0:0 draw. Before 29,183 spectators in minus four degrees Celsius, both teams offered little quality in the first half. HSV dominated midfield but produced no dangerous shots. The only highlight was a foul by St. Pauli defender Adam Dźwigała on HSV forward Alexander Røssing-Lelesiit in the 7th minute, earning a yellow card. Røssing-Lelesiit was substituted injured for Fabio Baldé.
After halftime, fan pyrotechnics delayed play. HSV created the first chance: Luka Vušković headed wide from a corner (54') but was saved by St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj. St. Pauli grew stronger, introducing captain Jackson Irvine and Danel Sinani. HSV coach Merlin Polzin responded by overhauling the attack: Robert Glatzel, Rayan Philippe, and Jean-Luc Dompé entered. Late on, Sinani (80') was denied by HSV keeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes, Louis Oppie missed the rebound, and Arkadiusz Pyrka (82') was stopped.
St. Pauli coach Alexander Blessin criticized: "We did too little - especially in the first half. For a derby, that's simply not enough." HSV defender Luka Vušković lamented: "I'm disappointed already. I think we deserved three points, the way we played." Both teams remain mired at the bottom; HSV holds a five-point lead and climbs to 13th, St. Pauli temporarily to the relegation spot. Pre-match fan marches to the stadium were peaceful, with heavy police presence for the high-risk game. St. Pauli's Ricky-Jade Jones was the season's fastest player at 36.1 km/h.
