PBNU's Syuriyah will hold a plenary meeting on December 9-10, 2025, in Jakarta to appoint an acting general chairman. The session arises amid internal conflicts involving Gus Yahya's dismissal and financial governance issues. An official invitation was issued on December 2, 2025.
Pengurus Besar Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) is facing escalating internal tensions with the Syuriyah's planned plenary meeting. Official invitation number 4799/PB.02/A.I.01.01/99/12/2025 was issued on December 2, 2025, by PBNU Secretariat, signed by Rais Aam KH Miftachul Akhyar and Katib Syuriyah KH Ahmad Tajul Mafakhir. The meeting is scheduled at Hotel Sultan, Jakarta, starting at 19:00 WIB on December 9-10, 2025, addressed to all structures including Mustasyar, Syuriyah, A’wan, Tanfidziyah, agency heads, and central autonomous bodies.
Deputy Rais Syuriyah KH Sarmidi Husna confirmed the invitation. "Injih (yes, it's true)," he said when contacted on December 4, 2025. The session refers to Article 14 of NU's Articles of Association, Article 58 of Bylaws, Perkum Number 10/2025 on Meetings, 13/2025 on Dismissal of Officials, 14/2025 on Internal Dispute Resolution, and PBNU Regulation 01/X/2023.
The conflict's background involves PBNU General Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf, or Gus Yahya, facing calls to resign over alleged financial governance violations. A 2022 internal audit revealed a Rp100 billion fund flow to a PBNU account managed by former Treasurer General Mardani Maming, suspected as money laundering (TPPU). Sarmidi cited this as a reason for Gus Yahya's dismissal, though the audit was initially internal and has now gone viral.
Gus Yahya stated he is ready for questioning. "Ya kita nunggu juga. Kalau ada yang memeriksa silakan saja gitu lho," he said on December 4, 2025. He emphasized PBNU's law-abiding stance and awaits law enforcement action, rejecting baseless accusations.
Earlier, on December 3, 2025, Gus Yahya explained the rotation of Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) from PBNU Secretary General due to over 80 delayed SKs for more than a year and his absence since becoming Social Minister. Gus Ipul was moved to Head of Education, Law, and Media Division, as part of organizational transformation amid leadership polemics.
