Police dog Hulk uncovers record 48 tons of marijuana in Rio favela

Brazilian police seized a record 48 tons of marijuana hidden in a bunker under an abandoned water tank in Rio de Janeiro's Complexo da Mare favela. The discovery came thanks to a sniffer dog named Hulk during a routine operation against criminal factions. The bust represents the largest drug seizure in Brazil's history, causing a nearly $10 million loss to traffickers.

Military police launched the operation on Tuesday in the Complexo da Mare, a large favela complex in northern Rio de Janeiro. During the raid, Hulk alerted officers to something suspicious beneath an abandoned water tank. Lt. Col. Luciano Pedro Barbosa, commander of the Canine Operations Battalion, said an officer discovered a bunker containing the entire quantity of drugs there. 'All of this was thanks to the work of the dog,' Barbosa told AFP. 'It wasn't based on intelligence.'
