Pramono assures 270,000 PBI BPJS members can access free treatment

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has assured that 270,000 Penerima Bantuan Iuran (PBI) BPJS Kesehatan participants affected by data updates can still access free healthcare services. The deactivation policy, from the central government, takes effect from February 1, 2026. The Jakarta Provincial Government will provide the same level of services, including for serious illnesses.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that 270,000 Penerima Bantuan Iuran (PBI) BPJS Kesehatan participants in Jakarta affected by data updates can still receive treatment and good healthcare services. This assurance comes in response to the central government's policy effective from February 1, 2026.

Pramono explained that he has instructed the Head of the Health Department and related officials to ensure the reactivation process runs smoothly. "I have conveyed to the Head of the Health Department and the health apparatus in Jakarta whether this reactivation is running well or not. But the Jakarta government must still be present," Pramono said in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

The Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to provide the same healthcare services, covering treatment for serious diseases, inpatient care, dialysis, cataract surgery, emergency services, and routine care at community health centers (puskesmas) and hospitals. Pramono noted that they are still awaiting data updates from the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) and the Ministry of Social Affairs. "But clearly, Jakarta in this case will continue to provide services that do not diminish for the community that needs to be reactivated," he added.

Head of the Jakarta Health Department, Ani Ruspitawati, added that for emergency services or those that cannot be stopped, such as dialysis or inpatient care, the regional government will immediately shift them to the PBI Pemda segment administratively. "If it's an emergency service or one that can't be stopped, when the PBI JK is deactivated, we will immediately shift the segment to PBI Pemda," Ani said.

For non-emergency services, reactivation will be assisted through the Social Affairs Department with ground checking stages to verify eligibility. If participants fall into Decile 1 to 5, their PBI will be reactivated. Ani emphasized that the process in Jakarta is easier because Universal Health Coverage (UHC) has reached over 99 percent. For emergencies, hospitals can directly coordinate with the participant's domiciled puskesmas for reactivation or segment shift.
