President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Kirti Chakra on Major Arshdeep Singh Gill during a ceremony in New Delhi. The award recognises his leadership in a 2025 counter-insurgency operation in Manipur. Gill is an alumnus of Chandigarh University.
The Defence Investiture Ceremony took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 12, 2026. Major Gill, who graduated with a civil engineering degree from Chandigarh University in 2014, led an operation that lasted nearly 84 hours and resulted in no casualties.
He serves with the Armoured Corps and is attached to 1 Assam Rifles. The mission occurred in Manipur in May 2025.
Deepinder Singh Sandhu, Senior Managing Director of Chandigarh University, said Major Gill demonstrated determination and operational leadership under demanding conditions. Sandhu noted the university has awarded defence scholarships worth over Rs 6 crore to 5,723 students in the past 14 years.
