President Petro announces investigation into disinformation network

President Gustavo Petro announced that he requested authorities to investigate page owners involved in a strategy to discredit his mandate.

Through a message on his X account on July 6, Petro indicated that he had already provided information to judicial authorities about individuals and companies involved.

The president noted that some companies reported for money laundering from organizations linked to drug trafficking and illegal mining would have funded the pages. He also mentioned the use of more than 500,000 fake profiles from mixed funds abroad to influence Colombian voters.

Petro said he would reveal the names in a thread on X and that he would file criminal and civil complaints in Colombia and abroad. The information has been with the Fiscalía General de la Nación for weeks.
