Paul shared the diary excerpts in a thread on X. They include entries from January 2020 onward, shortly after the first U.S. case was confirmed in Snohomish County, Washington.
Fauci wrote on January 21, 2020, about screening travelers from Wuhan at five airports. He noted a potential media clash with President Trump on January 22, 2020, after commenting that the situation was being taken seriously.
Later entries from 2020 describe Fauci's frequent media appearances and growing public profile. One from May 21, 2020, called his fame explosive and said he was the most talked-about person in the country.
Paul stated that Fauci had agreed then declined to testify voluntarily, prompting a subpoena. The hearing remains scheduled for Wednesday.
