Registration opens for FIDE World Youth Championships 2026

FIDE has opened registration for the 2026 World Youth Chess Championships in Montesilvano, Italy. National federations can nominate players for under-14, under-16, and under-18 categories in open and girls sections. The event runs from June 14 to June 27, 2026, with added activities for participants.

The International Chess Federation (FIDE), alongside the Italian Chess Federation and UniChess, invites national chess federations worldwide to join the FIDE World Youth Championships 2026. Set in the coastal town of Montesilvano, Italy, the tournament will span from June 14, the official arrival day, to June 27, the departure day.

Each national federation may register one official player in each of the six categories: under-14, under-16, and under-18 for both open and girls divisions. This allows for six players per delegation, accompanied by one head of delegation who must hold a valid FIDE ID. Certain players gain personal entry rights, including the top three finishers from the prior World Youth Championships in these age groups. Gold medalists from the previous edition can opt to compete in their age category or move up to a higher one. Additionally, champions from the most recent Continental Youth Championships qualify directly.

Registration and visa documentation must be submitted by April 7, 2026. Beyond the competitive play, organizers have planned a summer program featuring excursions, beach access, a blitz tournament, a football match, and various other activities to enrich the experience.

Full details, including invitation letters, regulations, and the schedule, are available as PDF downloads. The registration form and complete regulations can be found on the official website at chessworldyouth.com. For inquiries, contact worldyouth@fide.com.

This event builds on recent youth championships, such as the 2025 edition held in Durrës, Albania, which concluded with celebrations highlighting young talents.
