Hip-hop trio Roc Boyz visuals at Brännbollsyran in Umeå have drawn strong criticism. An animated film depicting Sami people subjected to violence in a video game-like setting has prompted a police report for incitement against an ethnic group.
The film was shown in the background during the band's performance at the festival on Friday. Festival visitor Aana Edmondson said it is problematic that one cannot attend a festival as a minority and simply have fun. Police have filed a report for incitement against an ethnic group. Freedom of expression expert Nils Funcke described the sequence as humourless and tasteless but assessed that it does not constitute grounds for a crime. Roc Boyz come from Bærum in Norway and consist of Henrik Meinich, Kristoffer Brandshaug and Morten Lutnæs. The festival organisers distanced themselves from the film and said they do not want to see attacks on Sami people.
