Rockies prospect Cole Carrigg makes ivy catch at Wrigley

Colorado Rockies prospect Cole Carrigg experienced the full Wrigley Field atmosphere during a series against the Chicago Cubs. He delivered a key defensive play in a 5-2 victory and reflected on the physical toll of the iconic outfield wall.

In the seventh inning on Tuesday night, Carrigg leaped into the ivy to catch a deep fly ball hit by Michael Busch. The play prevented a potential run with a runner on first base.

Carrigg, the Rockies’ No. 6 prospect, had been promoted from Triple-A Albuquerque just eight games earlier. He noted the wall offered little padding.

“It felt like brick – it was definitely pretty hard, not much cushion with the ivy,” Carrigg said after the game. “That’s a good highlight, for sure. Making a catch in the ivy is pretty cool.”

Carrigg also homered on Monday night and took part in the team’s Wednesday Starbucks run tradition for low-service time players.
