More than a month later, no public decision has emerged as the NFL Draft approaches in less than a month, following the first wave of free agency where other veteran quarterbacks signed new deals. Jeffri Chadiha of NFL.com identified the Rodgers-Steelers saga as the league's second-biggest question mark. 'The Steelers are doing a lot of things to indicate that the 42-year-old Rodgers is expected to be their quarterback, even though he’s once again taking his time deciding on his future,' Chadiha wrote. He pointed to the hiring of Mike McCarthy, who coached Rodgers for 13 years with the Green Bay Packers, as a key indicator. Rodgers has expressed respect for McCarthy despite past issues. The Steelers also traded for wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. to bolster short-yardage options. Longtime Steelers beat writer Mark Kaboly doubled down on his belief in Rodgers' return during a mailbag on X. 'I believe the Steelers know already, or at least have a really good idea, that he’s coming back,' Kaboly wrote. 'They think they will hear something definitely before the draft. Trust me, he’s coming back, so don’t overthink this.' The timeline has shifted since the Steelers' Wild Card loss to the Houston Texans after the 2025 season and Mike Tomlin's resignation. McCarthy has repeatedly voiced interest in reuniting with Rodgers, who recently told the Pat McAfee Show he has no contract offer or deadline from Pittsburgh.
