The Kansas City Royals made roster adjustments Thursday after catcher Salvador Perez was sidelined with left elbow soreness for the series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays at Kauffman Stadium.
Catcher Luke Maile was called up from Triple-A Omaha and added to the 40-man roster. Outfielder John Rave was optioned to Omaha, and reliever Eric Cerantola was designated for assignment.
Manager Matt Quatraro said Perez arrived with soreness the previous day and played first base before the issue worsened. The team added protection behind the plate in case Perez could not catch.
The Royals have 11 players on the injured list. Starter Cole Ragans underwent UCL repair on his left elbow and will miss the rest of this season and part of next year. Starter Kris Bubic remains on the 60-day injured list with a shoulder issue.
Perez is expected to be evaluated further after Friday's off day, which coincides with a World Cup match at the adjacent stadium.
