Sarah Wairimu, widow of Tob Cohen facing murder charges from six years ago, has appointed experienced lawyer Pravin Bowry to defend her. The court adjourned the case to November 27, 2025, as she also faces charges for giving false information about her passport. Chief Magistrate Zainab Abdul denied her bail due to the ongoing murder trial.
Sarah Wairimu, widow of Tob Cohen, faces charges for murdering her husband on July 19, 2019, at their home in Lower Kabete. Cohen's body was found dumped in a septic tank wrapped in a blanket. She has denied the charge.
Appearing before Judge Diana Kavedza, lawyer Pravin Bowry requested to review the case file and evidence before the hearing. The judge granted permission and adjourned the case to November 27, 2025, for further directions.
Meanwhile, on November 7, 2025, Sarah was re-charged before Chief Magistrate Zainab Abdul for providing false information to Inspector Mercy Riungu at Munyange police station in Othaya, Nyeri County. She lied that her passport number BK043532 was lost on February 20, 2023, and obtained an abstract for a replacement. On the same day, she falsely told lawyer Muchiri WaGathoni that it was lost and swore an affidavit.
Sarah denied both new charges and applied for bail. The prosecution opposed, noting her ongoing murder case and prior bail denial by Judge Kavedza. Magistrate Abdul rejected the bail application, stating she "does not deserve to be released on bail" as the High Court had denied it twice due to her holding two passports and allegations of witness intimidation.
Through her previous lawyer, Sarah has appealed the bail denial. Abdul instructed her, "You will remain in custody until the Court of Appeal decides your bail fate. If released by the Court of Appeal, you can reapply for bail here." She ordered Sarah to remain detained at Langata Women's Prison.
