The National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response (Senapred) has activated an early preventive alert in Chile's Biobío Region due to forecasts of strong winds and precipitation starting this Saturday. The action follows three alerts issued by the Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC). The alert aims to strengthen monitoring of potential risks.
Chile's Meteorological Directorate (DMC) issued three alerts for winds and precipitation in the Biobío Region, prompting Senapred to declare a regional early preventive alert for meteorological events. The alert will remain in effect from Saturday, April 26, until conditions no longer warrant it.
Starting Saturday, normal to moderate winds are forecast in the coastal and coastal range areas at 25 to 40 km/h, with gusts up to 60 km/h, and in the valley at 25 to 40 km/h with gusts of 50 km/h. This pattern will last at least until Sunday. Later, from Tuesday, April 28, to Wednesday, April 29, precordillera areas will see 25 to 40 km/h with gusts of 60 km/h, and the cordillera 40 to 60 km/h with gusts of 80 km/h.
Precipitation normal to moderate, totaling 25 to 35 mm, is expected in precordillera and cordillera areas, with a high zero isotherm between 3,000 and 3,700 meters above sea level, concentrated on Tuesday, April 28.
The alert calls for enhanced vigilance and monitoring of associated risks and vulnerabilities. In neighboring regions including O’Higgins, Ñuble, and Biobío, the DMC also forecasts sub-zero minimum temperatures on Sunday, April 26, and Monday, April 27, with agrometeorological alerts for frosts and advice to protect crops and livestock.
