SII intensifies road checks and reports 255 vehicles seized

Chile's Internal Revenue Service (SII) has ramped up road checks to verify goods transport documentation, seizing 255 vehicles and issuing 20 infractions during Easter week. The efforts aim to combat tax evasion and informal trade through product traceability. Director Jorge Trujillo highlighted the need for coordination with other agencies.

The SII prioritized in 2026 strengthening tax compliance actions to tackle evasion and informality. Through nationwide road and mobile checks, it verifies that loads are accompanied by invoices or dispatch guides, ensuring traceability and tax payments across the production chain.

These inspections intensify during peak commercial periods, such as Easter week. In coordination with Sernapesca and Carabineros, the SII conducted operations in the Metropolitan Region, targeting goods heading to the fishing terminal to detect evasion linked to informal trade.

"In periods like the one our country is experiencing, coordinated work and effort from all societal actors are required to combat tax evasion and informal trade," said SII director Jorge Trujillo. Results include 255 vehicles seized and 20 infractions, mainly for transporting goods without documentation, cigarette smuggling, irregular albacore transport, and missing tax documents.

Trujillo stressed that these outcomes underscore the importance of joint fiscalizations at capital accesses and key national distribution points.
