Snail Mail announces new album Ricochet and spring tour

Snail Mail, the project of Lindsey Jordan, has revealed her first album in five years, titled Ricochet, set for release on March 27 via Matador Records. The announcement includes the lead single 'Dead End' and a North American tour starting in April. Jordan underwent vocal surgery in 2021, marking a significant return.

Lindsey Jordan, known as Snail Mail, announced Ricochet, her first full-length album since 2021's Valentine. The 11-track record explores themes of time, mortality, and loss, according to a press release. It follows Jordan's 2021 surgery for vocal polyps and subsequent speech therapy, during which she wrote instrumentals and melodies on piano or guitar before completing lyrics over a year.

The album was recorded with producer and bassist Aron Kobayashi Ritch (of Momma) at Fidelitorium Recordings in North Carolina, as well as Nightfly and Studio G in Brooklyn. Ricochet's lead single, 'Dead End,' reflects on suburban adolescence with grunge-infused guitars and nostalgic hooks. Jordan co-directed its music video with Elsie Richter in rural North Carolina on a frigid night. 'We shot the video for “Dead End” in random places all around rural North Carolina between the hours of 5pm and 4am on one of the coldest nights of my life,' Jordan stated. 'The goal was to be inconspicuous with the fireworks, but someone called the cops on us.'

Since Valentine, Jordan launched a music festival in her Baltimore hometown, appeared in Jane Schoenbrun’s film I Saw the TV Glow, and covered tracks by Superdrag, Pavement, Lou Reed, and This Is Lorelei.

The supporting tour begins April 10 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at Turner Hall, with stops in Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Boston, Baltimore, and more, ending May 15 at Kilby Block Party in Salt Lake City, Utah. Select dates feature Sharp Pins, Avalon Emerson & the Charm, @, Swirlies, Armlock, and Rocket. A London show follows on June 26 at Electric Ballroom. Tickets go on sale January 23 via Ticketmaster.
