A stakeholder consultation on countering nicotine and tobacco addiction took place in Chennai on Saturday to mark World No Tobacco Day. The event was organised by the Mary Anne Charity Trust.
The consultation, titled ‘Unmasking the Appeal – Countering Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction’, was held by Mary Anne Charity Trust in Chennai. K. Krishnaraj, Joint Director of Non-Communicable Diseases at the Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, attended the event.
Krishnaraj distributed Tobacco Monitor Field Investigator identification cards to participants who had completed the trust’s Leadership Program on Tobacco Control. He described the cards as symbols of responsibility and urged the new field investigators to act as vigilant community leaders.
A press release noted that the initiative seeks to support the National Tobacco Control Programme through a network of volunteers who will identify violations of tobacco control laws. Other speakers included S. Cyril Alexander, Executive Director of Mary Anne Charity Trust, and T. Pravin, District Program Officer for Non-Communicable Diseases.
