Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian addressed military drills by Taiwan authorities and cross-strait business cooperation at a regular press briefing on Wednesday.
Zhu Fenglian said military drills staged by the Democratic Progressive Party authorities are mere grandstanding and will prove futile. She noted that the DPP authorities' attempt to seek "Taiwan independence" by force and escalate cross-strait confrontation makes them the root cause of tensions across the Taiwan Strait.
"No matter how many drills the DPP authorities stage, they cannot alter the doomed fate of 'Taiwan independence,' nor can they hold back the irresistible historical trend of national reunification," Zhu said.
Responding to media reports about Zhang Xue, chairman of Chinese motorcycle brand Zhangxue Motorcycle, hoping to open stores in Taiwan possibly as early as next year, Zhu said the mainland supports two-way investment and business cooperation. She added that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are one family and the mainland is willing to share its quality products with Taiwan compatriots.
