The Occultist releases free demo on Steam

Developer DALOAR and publisher Daedalic Entertainment have launched a free demo for their upcoming first-person narrative thriller, The Occultist, on Steam. Players take on the role of paranormal detective Alan Rebels, investigating his father's disappearance on the abandoned island of GodStone. The demo offers a glimpse into the game's survival horror elements, including a mystical pendulum and stealth mechanics.

The Occultist centers on Alan Rebels, a paranormal investigator who arrives at the mysterious island of GodStone to uncover the fate of his father, who vanished there. The island, once home to an infamous cult that conducted disturbing experiments and rituals until 1950, now stands abandoned and shrouded in fog. No one has visited since the cult's era, making Alan's journey a perilous exploration of its eerie streets and decaying buildings.

Accompanying Alan is his mystical pendulum, a key tool of unknown origin that enables interaction with the environment through five unique mechanics. This artifact allows him to engage with lingering souls or evade hostile spirits, testing his paranormal skills in ways previous cases have not. The demo highlights the game's survival horror aspects, with tense exploration, stealth to avoid detection, and puzzles ranging from simple to those requiring occult knowledge.

Visually, The Occultist boasts next-generation graphics for an immersive experience, complemented by an original soundtrack from composer Pepe Herrero. Players must navigate without direct combat, relying on hiding and sneaking past memorable adversaries that haunt GodStone. The release of this limited demo coincides with a new trailer, inviting gamers to sample the narrative-driven horror before the full launch.

GodStone's dark history challenges Alan's understanding of the occult, raising questions about hidden curses and whether they should be lifted. This demo provides an early taste of the game's atmospheric tension and personal storytelling.
