Author Tomi Adeyemi has stated she will not watch the upcoming film version of her novel Children of Blood and Bone. The 2018 young adult book is being adapted by director Gina Prince-Bythewood for Paramount Pictures with a planned release on January 15.
Adeyemi addressed fans directly in messages shared on TikTok. She wrote that there is a reason she will not post anything about the adaptation of her work. She added that she has not seen the film and will not watch it.
The author also shared a direct message she sent to actor Amandla Stenberg in late February. In it Adeyemi instructed Stenberg not to use her name in interviews or videos again and not to text or call her.
Adeyemi co-wrote the screenplay with Prince-Bythewood. The story follows a young woman on a quest to reclaim magic in an African fantasy kingdom. The cast includes Stenberg as Princess Amari along with Thuso Mbedu, Tosin Cole, Damson Idris, Cynthia Erivo, Lashana Lynch, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King and Viola Davis.
