Abdul Muis and Rasnal, two teachers from North Luwu Regency in South Sulawesi, showed relief and emotion after receiving rehabilitation letters directly from President Prabowo Subianto. The decision restores their reputations after a five-year struggle. They hope no other teachers face similar criminalization.
On Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Halim Perdanakusuma in Jakarta, Abdul Muis and Rasnal received rehabilitation letters from President Prabowo Subianto. The two honorary teachers hail from North Luwu Regency in South Sulawesi. Abdul Muis teaches sociology at SMA Negeri 1 Luwu Utara, while Rasnal, a former principal there, now teaches English at SMA Negeri 3 Luwu Utara.
The rehabilitation follows five years of discrimination from law enforcement and bureaucracy. Abdul Muis said, “I, personally and my extended family, express our sincerest thanks to Mr. President for giving us a sense of justice, during which for five years we experienced discrimination, both from law enforcement officials and from our bureaucratic superiors who seemed to never care about the case we faced.”
Rasnal described their struggle as exhausting. “This is a very tiring journey. We have fought from the bottom, from the base up to the province. Unfortunately, we could not get justice,” he said. After meeting the president, he added, “After we met Mr. President, alhamdulillah Mr. President has given us rehabilitation. I cannot say anything to Mr. President, thank you Mr. President.” Rasnal also expressed gratitude, “I am grateful to Allah SWT through this path we have obtained justice now and rehabilitated we have a good name.”
Both conveyed thanks for the president's attention to teachers' fates in remote areas and hoped similar cases would not recur for other educators in Indonesia. This step affirms the government's commitment to justice for teachers.
