Announcement Details
Vin Diesel, the star and producer of the Fast & Furious franchise, shared on Instagram that he has created a role for Cristiano Ronaldo in Fast X: Part 2. In the caption accompanying a photo of himself with the soccer icon, Diesel wrote, “Everyone asked, would he be in the Fast mythology… I gotta tell you he is a real one. We wrote a role for him…” Ronaldo has not yet confirmed his involvement.
Film Background
Fast X: Part 2 marks the 12th and final installment in the long-running action series, which began in 2001. Directed by Louis Leterrier, who helmed the previous entry Fast X, the movie is scripted by Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel. It is scheduled to hit theaters in April 2027. The production will return to Los Angeles, as confirmed by Diesel earlier this year, following wildfires that impacted filming locations.
Returning Cast and Plot Teases
The ensemble cast includes returning favorites such as Diesel as Dominic Toretto, Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs, Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw, Jason Momoa as Dante Reyes, Jordana Brewster as Mia Torretto, and Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz. In June, Diesel revealed at FuelFest that Paul Walker's character Brian O’Connor will return. The franchise has built a massive global following with its high-octane car chases and themes of family.
Franchise Context
Diesel announced in February 2024 that this would be the grand finale, calling it “a celebration of the incredible family we’ve built together.” Fast X grossed over $700 million worldwide but faced budget scrutiny, leading to a tighter financial plan for the sequel compared to previous entries like F9.
